Kids went with their older sister yesterday to Chicago and had a great time. Zack learned some fun facts about Iowa at the welcome center and they did some fraction math with speeds etc.

Homeschooling never ends

I used to think homeschooling ended at graduation... not really. One of my seniors in college (I currently have 2) is working on an animation for her senior thesis. I called a snow day because most of the schools are closed due to an ice storm last night... and spent most of the day in a story meeting with this college student.  Our journey to help our kids never ends... because learning isn't age dependent.

Math fun... so I know I am a math geek

If you make a table of 3 multiplication facts... in row of 1 to 10....concluding at 50

A fun pattern emerges. I am not sure if it's clear... if you know the first row... its easy to create the chart quickly. 

Math ramble

So if math is just counting things in multiple ways.... why do we over complicate teaching and learning it.

Setting a new routine

So yesterday we started a new routine.  From after breakfast till 3pm... 30 min of cleaning.... 30 min of learning.  Cycled over and over. I have decided that our multiplication facts need help...so next week we will work on 3,6, and 9. I want to use charts and keep the relationship in mind as we learn because they are a pattern. Yes they need to memorize but they also need the connections.

Crochet and hidden figures

We went to a crochet group and are going to try to make items for them to sell and give away for charity. They do everything locally. Hidden figures was awesome and are using it as a spring board maybe for future studies.

Zack and runes

A freind at taekwondo introduced zack to rune writing today so zack is going to start researching on monday. :)
